Unfortunately the file would not decompress in the runtime version of Vista loaded off of the install DVD so I had to decompress the zip directories on the second computer, burned them onto a second DVD (wasted the first one finding out I couldn’t just run the exe file) and then ran setup.
#Adaptec slimscsi 1460a driver driver
I used another computer to download the beta ATI Radeon Xpress 200M driver for my laptop at and burned it to a DVD so I could put into my laptop drive and run the install. I used the “repair” trick again to get to a command prompt again. I rebooted and I blue screened again.įourth, this time I noted it looked like the ATI driver was having problems. I went to the C:\windows\system32\drivers subdirectory and renamed the sptd.sys file. I booted off of the install DVD, went to repair and when it couldn’t find anything wrong with the install it gave me the menu where I could go to a command prompt. Vista will blue screen when it tried to load the sptd.sys driver. It turned out that I had my virtual C/D utility by DAEMON Tools loaded in the system tray of XP before I upgraded. Third, I had to repeatedly reboot so I could catch the driver that was failing. Second, after I hooked an external monitor (see “Black screen of death” thread) to my HP Pavilion L2000 laptop, the install finished and then I rebooted and the system blue screened.

Only then did the Vista install program allow me to proceed Uninstall in device manager (XP) did not work so I had to “hack” the registry and remove all references to the controller. What did I do wrong? Well…įirst, (as I said in the earlier portions of the thread) I had to manually remove references to my Adaptec SlimSCSI 1460D controller. Unreal, it took three days (and nights) and a lot of research on the Internet, but I'm running.
